2020-2023 KIRIBATI DEVELOPMENT PLAN

The 2020–2023 Kiribati Development Plan (KDP), launched in December 2021, serves as the nation's medium-term roadmap to realize the long-term goals outlined in the Kiribati Vision 20-Year (KV20) strategy. This plan focuses on six Key Priority Areas (KPA).

  1. Harnessing Our Human Wealth: Enhancing education and skills development to empower citizens.
  2. Growing Our Economic Wealth and Leaving No-One Behind: Promoting inclusive economic growth and reducing poverty.
  3. Improving Our Health: Strengthening healthcare systems and improving public health outcomes.
  4. Protecting and Managing Our Environment and Strengthening Resilience: Addressing climate change impacts and promoting environmental sustainability.
  5. Good Governance: Enhancing transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
  6. Developing Our Infrastructure: Investing in essential infrastructure to support development.

The KDP emphasizes sustainable management of marine resources, diversification of the fisheries sector, and promotion of renewable energy to achieve energy efficiency targets. It also focuses on improving access to quality healthcare, education, and basic services, while strengthening disaster risk management and climate change adaptation measures. The plan underscores the importance of good governance and infrastructure development to support economic growth and resilience.

Overall, the 2020–2023 KDP aims to build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for Kiribati by aligning national development efforts with the overarching goals of the KV20
